Lancement Chasing Lydie de Marie-Jo Therio

March 15, 2011 at 6:00 PM (Art happenings)

This video was created by my friend Chris A Leblanc during the Cd launch of our very own Marie-Jo Therio at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, NB. The theme of the soirĂ©e was to dress in 1920’s 30’s or 40’s… I went as Anais Nin (2 red flowers in my hair) and my good friend Johnny Diggit went as Henry Miller. What a super theatrical and amazingly classy night! Koodos to all involved. 🙂

Entrevue Radio-Canada November 20th 2010

November 22, 2010 at 2:00 AM (Art happenings)

I was interviewed by Radio Canada after they saw my show at Café Maelström! 🙂 It was very spur of the moment and I had practically no time to prepare. Even though I wrote a few things down I was so nervous I thought I was gonna pass out. My mind kept going blank and I just fought the whole way through to get words out. Regardless this was a fantastic opportunity and I am ever grateful to Alain Clavette for giving me a chance 🙂 Merci Alain.

Café Maelstrom Show

November 11, 2010 at 2:08 AM (Art happenings)

One week countdown to my show! The excitement sparkles all around me! I love doing shows in cafĂ©s. It’s so unexpected. There is an element of surprise and pleasantness that captivates the onlooker. People respond really well to seeing, for one, something other than paintings or photographs being displayed as though they were, and two, to seeing wearable garments on a wall. I can’t wait to see people’s reactions next Wednesday!

Foire Brayonne, July-Aug 2010

October 4, 2010 at 6:37 PM (Art happenings)

This was my first time participating in my home-town’s annual festival and to my great contentment I did superbly well! I nearly sold out of aprons and sashes. Cards sold a little slower but perhaps that is not the right environment for them. I will definitely be signing up for next year….

MarchĂ© de ShĂ©diac, AllĂ©e des Artistes 2010

October 4, 2010 at 6:03 PM (Art happenings)

ShĂ©diac was bustling for me this summer. First with the residency, then the Shediac Market every Sunday and the Alley of Artists every Thursday. Things went ultimately well; I had good days and not so good days. The response was overwhelming with positive feedback but the sales weren’t always finalized. People seem to love my work but many say my aprons are too beautiful to wear, which makes absolutely no sense to me, as I believe we should always look fabulous! No matter what the context, event or daily doing.

Of course it’s put a dent in my creative flow for I wonder if they are not right. Perhaps I should go another route. Yet the clientele that does buy from me tells me otherwise. That there is a market for my work, I just need to target it and develop other lines for the mass who could do with something else ‘too’ beautiful. I’ve also had a lot of demand for clothing, mainly skirts and dresses, which I have begun to develop, especially with the inspiration I got from my trip to Quebec City last week.

After a month off, pondering and rummaging around in my mind, I am finally getting back on track and getting the business back in motion. Stay tuned for new products and a busy fall and winter. 🙂

Residency extended an extra week!

July 8, 2010 at 8:37 PM (Art happenings)

Things are going well in my new temporary studio. I have made  189 cards and designed 35 aprons. Tomorrow I start to sew. And I get a whole other week to finish my project! Que maravilloso!

Light and tree shadows dance into my studio and against my computer as I write these words. Is there anything more enchanting or inspiring than a late summer afternoon mosaic of light swirling about? At this precise moment, there is not….
